Logging crank and cam signals

Here's how to take a high speed log of crank and cam signals for troubleshooting.

You'll need to connect to the ECU and change the ignition settings/ignition options/spark mode to "log crank and cam". Normally its "toothed wheel". After changing it, press burn, and make sure you key off and back on. (at the end of all this, make sure you put it back to toothed wheel, burn, key off/on) This setting will turn off spark and fuel so the car won't start.

Then go to the "diagnostics and high speed logger" tab. Set the logger type to "composite" , check the box "capture to log file" (name it).

Press the start button, then crank the engine for 8-10 seconds (sometimes longer), then press the stop button. That log will be saved as a "csv" file in your datalogs folder (inside your project folder), and you can email it to me, or open it to look at. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get it to log.

Here are some pics below to show you what I'm talking about. Make sure to set the ignition back to toothed wheel when done (or the car won't start).

Attached is an example of a successful crank and cam log. Sometimes it can take a few tries to get a good log.

Good to know my car died the other day making a test hit and I could have used this. The old Gen7 had a sensor screen you could open that showed you if your cam and crank sensors were firing but couldnt figure out how to check it with in tunerpro. Now I know lol.

Pretty sure it ended up just being a cam senor cap that crapped out but ended up replacing both crank and cam sensors.
